Facial aging involves the loss of facial soft tissue and bone volume as well as skin tightness. Although surgical treatments ( facelift and blepharoplasty) are the gold standard of treatment, sometimes fillers can be used as a less invasive alternative to disguise volume loss.
Hyaluronic Acid products are most commonly used and come in various densities to maximize the volume enhancement for certain facial areas. Restylane, Juviderm, Perlane and Voluma are injectables that can be used individually or in combination to add volume to the cheeks and around the eyes and mouth to improve appearance. Topical anesthesia is used and the procedure takes 30-45 minutes and involves multiple injections, but no incisions. Results last from 9 - 15 months depending on the product used and the area injected.
