What To Know About Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Procedure Explained by Award-Winning CT Doctor/Surgeon

Dr. Paul Fischer directs and sees patients daily at Milford Medical and Aesthetic Care for eyelid surgery. He briefly explains the procedure below:

A blepharoplasty ( or eyelift) is a procedure that improves the appearance of the eye area by removing loose skin and protruding fat ( eg: lower eyelid "bags"). It is useful for both the upper and lower eyelids and is often done with a browlift to return your eyebrow to a more youthful location and reduce the wrinkles in the forehead.

A consultation involves:

  • A review about your goals for this procedure and a designed surgical plan to meet these goals based on your physical characteristics. There is no "one" type of surgery; each patient receives a unique surgical plan
  • Review of medical and surgical history
  • List all current medications
  • Review of pre and postop pictures to demonstrate various surgical options
  • Question and answer time

The procedure is done in an outpatient setting with anesthesia choice based on the comfort of the patient, and recovery time varies based on the number and type of procedures done as well as the physical characteristics of the patient. Typically you can be swollen and bruised for 2-3 weeks, but the discomfort from these procedures is usually minimal.

Eyelid surgery often is the only way to reduce that "tired" look, but is not performed to make you look different, just more refreshed!
