Fillers are injectable substances used to plump up facial creases, wrinkles , or areas of volume loss( such as the cheek) that develop as we age. There are many chemicals in use today, the most common being a gel made of hyaluronic acid marketed under the names Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm.

The procedure is done in the office under topical or injectable local anesthesia and may require multiple visits to obtain the desired result. The effect lasts from 3 to 9 months depending on the area injected.
